Hotmail message thing

Postby keith » Sun 28 Mar, 2004 5:58 pm

In my hotmail i keep getting e-mails. i don't know what they mean it says:

Received <<< 550 5.1.1 <ishop@shell.ca>... User unknown

Could not deliver mail to this user.
ishop@shell.ca
***************** End of message ***************

and the subject says mail delivery failure and i never sent anything to anyone at that address. i get other ones too. they all have attatchments. Some are blocked out because of a virus hotmail picked up and the others i won't open incase they are infected.
i also get this; From :
<xxxxxx@hotmail.com>

To :
ishop@shell.ca

Subject :
unknown

Sent :
March 28, 2004 5:45:27 PM

Attachment : InterScan_SafeStamp.txt (312 bytes)
read it immediately!

as if i sent it to someone but i havn't cause i have never heard of these e-mail adresses. could i have a virus or someones way of sending me one?

Sugestions comments or help of any kind would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I suspect that an e-mail sniffing robot picked up your address, and someone is now using it in a scheme of e-mail spoofing, in which case there's little you can do.
While I doubt this is caused by a virus, it certainly wouldn't hurt to run antivirus software such as AVG to make sure.

(And Keith, please don't post your e-mail address out in the open; doing so invites spam and more instances of this!)

If they are in Hotmail, why don't you filter your mail?
I did, I just receive email from people in my address book.
No junk mail at all.
No folder for junk.

It's up to you then.
I can't be bothered with all the junk.
I can find all I want in a google search.
I don't need to read their junk.
I have a few newsletters I read, but that's all.
