How do I get rid of messenger service on XP????????

Postby ronnie5 » Tue 01 Apr, 2003 6:13 pm

I am talking about the little box that pops up on the screen every couple of minutes because of msn messenger. It is titled on the box messenger service. You know the ones like Hi my name is Jenny a struggling student....or get Fightmessenger.com and stop annoying pop ups etc... I tried downloading a pop up stopper, but it won't let me play games online when it is on or open my email etc... I would like to delete it off of my computer. My friend told me there is a way, but he doesn't know how to do it on XP. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Have a look here for info on disabling the Messenger Service in WinXP.

America Online actually had a patch on their website about the Messenger problem. I applied the patch about 8 days ago and I have not had one interruption since. AOL had lots of complaints from subscribers about the interruptions. Seems that the majority of the problems happened to AOL members.

:D Thanks DJGM for the tip. I just turned off my messenger and haven't seen one pop-up since. If it continues to work - you're a genius!!!! Thanks again.
