How do I install SeaMonkey on Kubuntu

Postby iJohnE » Wed 25 Jun, 2008 12:46 pm

Hello all-

I just install Kubuntu on my cousin Ernie's XP machine. It comes preinstalled with Konquerer, and I would like to Install SeaMonkey. When I go to the programs installer, SeAMonkey doesn't come up, just the mail and news groups. If I go to the SeaMonkey website, I can download the tar.gz file, however, I don't know where to go from there.

Try opening a terminal and using apt to automatically download and install Seamonkey and integrate it with Kubuntu. [tt]sudo apt-get install seamonkey[/tt] should do it, unless they call it something else (it may be something like [tt]seamonkey-browser[/tt]; experiment around if you need to).

What I do, is download the Installer tar.gz file and install it inside a sub-directory of my /home directory. It creates another sub-directory seamonkey-installer, then run the installer file (not the installer.bin file) inside that directory.

Easy to find and it automatically creates the other directories it uses.

Once installed, I then create the desktop shortcut pointing to the installation directory.

Note that SeaMonkey requires the libstdc++5 package. If this is not already installed, the Installer program will not run.

The "seamonkey" package is available only on the "universe" repository. You'll have to enable it (if that hasn't been done yet).

I was lucky. After a little searching, I did find it in the program manager. However, these results will help me to possibly install future programs. So, thanks to everyone for all of their help. :)

Sincerely,
iJohnE
