Mandrake-

The whole thing about netbooks is to know what they are and not try to make them into something else, whihc is what the manufacturers are doing.

Hi Mandrake

Your smiley makes me believe you're asking this question with tongue in cheek.

Sure you can go back "if" you need portability. I don't think Richard or I are advocating making a netbook behave as though it were a laptop (or perish the thought... a desktop) BUT that appears to be what some manufacturers are trying to manipulate the public into believing. Netbooks are what they are... underpowered, tiny marvels that can be easily carried (tucked into my wife's purse or my camera bag) due to their small size and very light weight. They're absolutely perfect for air travel where size and weight are major factors.

Clearly the netbook is not for you.

I can see an increasing market for netbook. There are those who just want a computer that is sufficient for online browsing, emailing or checking photos on the go. Taking a 10-inch (or smaller) netbook is certainly much easier than carrying a 17-inch or 15-inch laptop. In many situations, you don't need a laptop bag/case for netbook.

Although I only take out my 15-inch MacBook Pro about once a month, I am starting to feel that it is a bit too big to carry out. Well, the 13-inch MacBook Air, although thin, is not that small in comparison.

I had three of my own, two desktops and the ThinkPad. Now down to one desktop and the ThinkPad.

But when I go to the next local computer show, if that dealer is there who had the small Pentium 4 HP and Compaq systems for $25.00 (probably without memory or a hard drive), I may pick one up...
