How NOT to design a web page and other problems!!!!

Postby Blackbeard » Wed 01 Dec, 2004 11:20 am

My Original post can be found in The web design section but I think in terms of recation Agree/Disagree my post should reside in a more public area....

you can link directly to the post right here!!!! [sdt=7687]How not to design a web page[/sdt].

I have targeted the MSN Messenger Download Page (English Version) as being an example of both lazy and poor web desing - supposedly at a corporate level too!!!!! (Then again - what's new!!!!)

Maybe you can share your opinons pro or con in this respect........ Or maybe we can start a new thread about the state of web design in general........ I personally feel things are at a crash and burn stage right now and have never experiences such confusion or disinformation in my surfing life thus far. Macromedia have one of the most confusing and user-unfriendly sites I've ever tried to navigate and I have been trying to make my feelings known to them about this for nearly 2 years now since they originally overhauled it!!! Server times are slow and you practically need to be a detective to find information relevant to what you seek at the best of times!!!!

Likewise server response times on some sites have become laughable.. I mention this in reply to another members post re java download times for linux from the Sun Microsystems site................. alas they're not alone..... Download times are often horrendous even over high speed Broadband connections................... Often someone tells you that they've checked the server and there's no problem on their end - a response I find highly suspect!!!! Try telling that to someone that's been 10 hours trying to download 15mb.

Similarly I live in Caracas............... I visit an Internet Cafe on occasion for large downloads........................ I have a home 564kpbs Broadband connection with a monthly bandwidth of 450MB.

The Internet cafe has a !gb Unlimited line and on that my download times a few months back for Win XP SP2 Update took 2 1/2 hours!!!! This was running on their Genesis Server (Canadian). Luckily the Internet cafe has a backup connection that is a little slower than my own home connection........... I was not about to wait 2 1/2 hours so hooked up to the backup................... The download only took 40 minutes..................

So when I get the response as mentioned above............ try telling that to someone else Mr. Jackson!!! (aka. 'Stonewall' to your friends!!!!)
