How to CCK Netscape 7.01?

Postby profman » Fri 13 Dec, 2002 8:35 pm

How do I use my old Netscape CCK program (that came containing NS 7.00) to set up a CCK distribution of Netscape 7.01? Netscape's CCK version seems, by its date, still to come with Netscape 7.00, although I did not download it to check. I want to provide my local users a CCK of the latest Netscape version. :)

Thanks for any advice that you can spare!

You will need to install Netscape 7.0 CCK then extract Netscape 7.01 files into the appropriated folders. You might want to join Special Build Testers user group.

Does this mean that I could replace the Netscape 7.00 xpi and related files within the CCK directory (located within the Nscpxpi folder) with the Netscape 7.01 files which I think I can find at:

http://ftp.netscape.com/pub/netscape7/e ... 32/bfkprv/

If so, I am willing to give it a try.

To do a CCK build of Netscape 7.01, download the full Netscape 7.01 install package, and select it on the page of the CCK that allows you to pick the target OS (leave Windows selected, browse to where you saved the full installer, select it, and continue).

The method I recommend is . . .

Assuming you've installed the Netscape 7.0 CCK app to . . . C:\N7CCK\ you
must download the xpi files direct from this folder on the Netscape FTP
server, straght into the following folder on your hard drive . . .

C:\N7CK\CCKTool\Version\7.0\Windows\enus\Nscpxpi\
(TIP: It's easier to download the xpi files all in one go with an FTP app.)

Then just run the CCK app, and follow the prompts on the CCK wizard.

1. DJGM's answer is exactly what I had mentioned earlier. I greatly appreciate confirmation of my speculative guess.

2. To Hendikins, I need to know what you mean by the "full Netscape 7.01 install package." Is this "NSSetupB.exe" or do you mean the collection of xpi (and other) files that DJGM pointed to?

Thanks again to DJGM, Hendikins, and Antony for all of your good advice! (The only problem is that I'm not sure if I can afford the Credit Card charges that I am incurring from "DJGM Industries, Limited.":)) I'm not certain when I'll have the chance to do test runs using this advice since My University is wrapping up the Fall Semester and the Holidays are coming up.

Hendikins meant the NSSetupB.exe file as the full Netscape 7.01 package,
although the procedure I explained earlied, has worked ok for me so far.

As for the credit charges, I may have to pass those on to a debt collection
agency if you're unable to keep up with my extortionate monthly charges!

Where do you find a source for the NS version 7.01 of the file, NSSetup.zip, which is found in the C:\N7CK\CCKTool\Version\7.0\Windows\enus\Nscpxpi\ directory? I have not been able to find it on Netscape's ftp server. I made a mistake by installing NS 7.01 using the old NSSetup.zip from NS 7.00. I ended up having to edit the registry in order to uninstall my test build.

I think that I have worked around this problem now by following Hendikins's advice which gives me a fresh set of files in the C:\N7CK\CCKTool\Version\7.0\Windows\enus\Nscpxpi\ directory.

BTW, I think I have solved the problem of making NIM optional by editing the CONFIG.INI file.
