How to Enable Spell Check in Mail?

Postby RootsMan » Mon 23 Dec, 2002 12:18 pm

Greetings,

Is spell checking available for Netscape 7.01 mail?

I've looked in Edit > Preferences... > Mail & Newsgroups > Composition and don't see an option to en/dis-able spell checking for mail.

Browser: Netscape 7.01 streamline (Sillydog.com)
OS: Windows XP Professional

Netscape 7.01 Help and Support Center

Mail & Newsgroups Preferences - Composition

Composition preferences affect how you create messages (for example, forwarding options and address autocompletion) in all accounts. If you are not already viewing the Composition settings, follow these steps:

1. Open the Edit menu and choose Preferences.
2. Under the Mail & Newsgroups category, click Composition. (If no subcategories are visible, double-click Mail & Newsgroups to expand the list.)

* Composing Messages: Select to have Mail & Newsgroups always check the spelling of your messages when you click Send.

Hi RootsMan,

I too, thanks to your question, discovered that I had no spellcheck component either. Go to the
Netscape FTP XPI Directory and install spellchk.xpi. Note that in your Preferences you must enable Software Installation:
Preferences|Advanced|Software Installation

Hey Rootsman and Ramona: I, too, do not have spell check in my NS 7.01. I just downloaded and installed it from the site you linked us to. Thanks. I wonder when I would have noticed that on my own?

Hi humpd,

Probably when you got a reply to one of your emails and noted the misspelled words!

Gee, I thought my spelling was really perfect...

BTW, I have informed Antony of this anomaly.

Greetings,

Thanks Ramona.

Hopefully, spellchecker will be included in future versions.

I see that the spell checker used my existing Personal Dictionary (custom.dic) for my profile. :)
