Dear Wellander,

firstly, you need to state which Linux or BSD or whatever you are using. Then state your question.

If you have questions regarding Linux etc in general, please post.

IIRC, Wellander is running RedHat Linux v8.0 here , , ,

Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

I believe it is built in. You will need to access it from command line (shell, or called Terminal)

if you have a file called filename.gz.
* to unzip (expand) it,
Code: Select all
gzip -d filename.gz

* to create a zipped file (to compress file(s)),
Code: Select all
gzip -c filename2

If you don't need the original file (uncompressed), just
Code: Select all
gzip filename2
would do, the original file filename2 woule become filename2.gz (gzipped)
