how to remove"free scratch card" popup

Postby michaelp » Thu 24 Jul, 2003 8:13 am

On a Win ME system, after initial bootup, a "free scratchoff card " popup appears onscreen. This is something that can be closed out but the icon still shows in the taskbar. The website is not active and there is no uninstall feature. I cannot find this program on the computer. The computer is not online when this popup appears,it only shows up at bootup. Where do I look to remove it from the system? thanks.

Seems to me, you have inadvertently picked up some scumware/spyware, either via surfing
with Internet Explorer, or some scumware/spyware has been sneakily installed along with
some freebie software you've downloaded and installed on your PC at some point.

To get rid of this, you'll need a spyware remover, such as Ad-Aware 6 from LavaSoft. This
program can scan your entire hard drive, including all your program and system files, plus
the Registry for unauthorised scumware/spyware that could be tracking all your internet
usage, and sending the data it collects back to some unknown server on the internet.

SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!
