HP iPod available

Postby Antony » Sat 28 Aug, 2004 5:12 am

HP iPod is now available from Apple iPod + HP (an HP website). The iPod is white and silver, not the blue one as demonstrated in early January.

I don't know the difference of this HP version of iPod compared to the Apple version besides the HP logo at back of the iPod if you watch the Flash carefully.

According to engadget, They are going to offer a customised stickers called "Printable Tattoos" for the HP iPod.
They’re offering one free when you buy an HP iPod, with the first ones available promoting different artists, including Ashlee Simpson, The Cure, Gwen Stefani, Keane, Lloyd Banks, Sting, the Who, the Hives, Toby Keith, and Vanessa Carlton.

Hi,
Is this legal?
I know that Apple does not give rights very often.

Wellander,

This is all above board and legit. These a genuine Apple iPods, branded with the HP logo.
If what HP are doing by selling rebranded iPods wasn't unauthorised, then Apple would
have asked lawyers to issue a "cease and desist" order long before now.

This was announced back in January.

The original plan was to have a grayish-blue [3G] iPod, like this picture:

(the hand holding the iPod is HP CEO Carly Fiorina.)

For some reason this was scrapped.

Have you been to the iPod-related websites for long? OR do you have an iPod?

Please stop posting comments like that. Please know what you are talking about first.

I agree with our lord and master, Antony ( ) on this. The recent 3rd generation iPods had four buttons that were menu, play/pause, back, and forward. the wheel was touch-senstitive. The current 4th generation iPods did away with this.

Read Before You Speak (TM), Al.

Ok?

Apple now has an interest Tech support page on "How to determine if you have a Hewlett-Packard iPod", Note: the support would be provided by HP, not Apple, for Hewlett-Packard iPods.

Well, you can see an HP logo on the back.

 And the HP iPod is white, not blue. However, it can be very colourful :-)

Looking for an iPod, but don't know which one to get?
Dan Frakes wrote "A Tale of Two iPods: iPod vs hPod" in Playlist, an article specially for Windows users.

..., both iPods also use Apple's acclaimed iTunes music software to manage and play music on your computer and to sync music between your computer and your portable player. (The CD included in the box with HP-branded iPods provides only the Windows version, whereas an Apple iPod includes both Mac and Windows iTunes/iPod software.)

(If you're thinking that HP's Printable Tattoos, which allow you to "skin" your iPod with removable, wraparound stickers, are a difference between the two versions, note that these Tattoos will work with any click-wheel iPod, even those from Apple. They'll be available in both pre-printed and ready-to-print versions by late September.)
