This is good news, and could see Netscape regain a little bit of the market share it's lost over the years.
As long as HP setup the browser with clear, plain English directions about the dual rendering engine
feature, and point out that, for security reasons, IE mode should only be used sparingly.
It would've been nicer to see HP pre-installing Firefox instead though.
Eitherway, this is better than leaving the systems with IE only.

Hopefully this will light a fire in Netscape to resolve some of the problems the are having with there browser. They have to get better with there security updates.But I agree with DJDM right now it would be a better move for HP to ship Firefox. More stable browser, and very fast on security updates.

According to C|net News.com and Netscape's Press Release, HP will distribute Netscape 8 browsers on consumer PCs and notebooks from early next year.
This agreement is the first browser distribution deal with a major PC maker since the end of the browser wars in the 1990s, according to Netscape. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Netscape released Netscape 8 in May, MozInfo701 was first to break the news of Netscape 8 (Prototype) in November 2004.
The main focus of Netscape Browser 8 is the security control in site based levels. Netscape 8 also allows users to switch between Mozilla Firefox (Gecko) or Microsoft Internet Explorer (Trident) engines.

Even though I despise Netscape 8 itself, i'm glad to hear that HP is moving away from IE, the next step would be to have Linux as an option to be pre-installed when buying a new PC, but I ghonestly don't see that happening very soon

Netscape 8 is more practical for end-users since it offers both the IE and Firefox engines. Since some websites just work better in IE, users have the option of viewing it the way IE displays it. But more than that, Netscape 8 has its sites control feature where it promises to identify scam/phishing sites in real-time (as you surf).
Tabbed browsing, choice of IE/Firefox rendering, plus security features gives Netscape 8 better value than a stand-alone IE or Firefox.
Kudos to the Netscape team!

The recent deal between HP and Netscape brings into focus Mozilla's marketing strategy because, in my opinion, after 90 million downloads, Firefox should have already bagged some big-name vendors by now. Reviews of Firefox were all praises. It's blistering popularity took a lot of people by surprise. It even stole some of IE's market share. However, it is puzzling to note that Netscape 8, which entered the scene much later than Firefox 1, was ahead in this respect.
A few years ago, Apple chose to base its Safari browser on KHTML/Konqueror. I recall that incident. Mozilla was hurt by that. But that unfortunate incident gave birth to Firefox. The rest is history. What now, Firefox?
