I Can No Longer Access SillyDog 701

Postby James » Wed 13 Oct, 2010 8:42 pm

I'm not sure what is going on, but as long as I use Firefox I am unable to log into SillyDog. It first asks me to log in after which it tells me that I have successfully logged in. Then a few seconds later it loops back to the log-in page and I start all over again. I'm unable to post, to see new messages, to send messages to others. However, I can access this site using Chrome.

I use Lastpass which syncs between my browsers. I should add that all my other sites requiring a password are fine when using firefox... just SillyDog. Any ideas?

Try deleting all cookies from sillydog.org on your Firefox and try to log in again.

I tried that, Antony. I have a feeling that somehow my Firefox profile has become corrupted. But why SillyDog is the only site that appears to be affected is a mystery.

As I mentioned before, I will come here and am forced to log in. Once I do that it tells me my log in has been successful. But it then loops me back to the log in page and I have to start all over. So, I delete all cookies from the link at the bottom of the page, I indicate that I've forgotten my password so SillyDog sends me a new one, I return to SD with the new password and the loop starts all over.

This is not a problem for any other site using Firefox. It is also not a problem here if I use IE9 or Chrome. It's just Firefox.

I, never, experienced anything like this, but I stay logged in. Do you logout from the other browsers?

James,

Have you tried deleting all SillyDog701 cookies from Firefox's Preferences, under Privacy (tab), click on Show Cookies. Then search for "sillydog.org" and you can delete pretty much all Cookies from sillydog.org (domain).

Antony, I bit the bullet and decided to completely uninstall Firefox using Revo. I cleared out everything... including my profile and bookmarks and passwords; you name it. Then I downloaded and reinstalled a new copy of Firefox and manually put back all my bookmarks (took me about half an hour). Everything is running fine once more. Thanks for your help.

Could the cookies have possibly been turned off, preventing the login from holding??

I don't think so, Edward, although anything is possible. Be that as it may, I've no way of knowing at this stage and having re-installed FF, things appear to be back to normal. Maybe the profile was corrupted? Maybe it had something to do with it being a beta version? I just don't know. :?

Beta versions of anything, I tend to stay away from, especially under Windows. In Linux, it's not as bad, since SeaMonkey is installed to my home directory instead of system-wide, i can simply delete the directory and it's gone, in the event of a problem.

Yes. Generally I would agree with you. In fact, my delving into the land of beta is a bit unusual. But Asa Dotzler claimed it was perfectly stable and it's nearly a release candidate so...

Anyway... I'm using a new install of it and it seems perfectly stable. We shall see. :)
