I learned something two months ago, and that's not to plug a Zyxel ADSL modem into a power strip that's plugged into another, and then another, unless you want the thing to set fire, which it did.
I called my ISP, they said they'd come out "soon" and fix it. Well, I'm still waiting. In the meantime, I used my dial-up ISP, The World, but for some reason they don't like SD701, so I couldn't use the message board.
Now, I could have always gone to the library for awhile and logged in there, but SD701 got caught in a message board filter, so I couldn't use it there either.
So what am I doing now? Well, I forgot about my old DSL modem down in the basement. I happened to knock it over while working with the server. Plugged that in, works like a charm. Sure, I'm only doing 256/256, but that's not too bad.
So what's the lesson here?
1. Get an ISP that will actually fix your equipment
2. Get an extra ISP that will let you access message boards
3. Don't spend an hour looking for backdoors in CyberPatrol at the library
4. Look in your basement for old yet working equipment.
