The SillyDog701 Message Centre has a rule stating that inline images can be no wider than 550 pixels wide. I think this is a very good guideline, and I wish more forums had such rule. It is really nice seeing this in effect, as my screen resoultion is 800*600. I suppose that the 550 pixel rule was started so users with low resolutions, such as myself, could browse the forum without having to sidescroll. Well, now I've seen some unformatted hyperlinks in posts that cause side scrolling at my resolution. While there is no formal rule enforcing that very long links must shortened with BBCode, I try to avoid posting wide links that cause side scrolling.
I like how Invision Power Board deals with wide hyperlinks. The post with the wide link/image is only effected. The side scroller is still there for the post with the long link, but other posts still fit to the screen resolution.
I've tried to create a diagram of how this works.
The blue box is a screen as 800*600. If the post with a long link has to be viewed completely, you could side scroll to view it. All other posts would be viewed normally.
Would it be possible for the SD701 Message Centre to adopt such a layout?
