Installation of NS7.01

Postby humpd » Tue 10 Dec, 2002 11:15 am

I am going to download and install NS7.01 as soon as it is out in Streamline version. I asked similar questions some time ago but I want to be sure I do this right. I am going to install NS7.01 in a separate folder. I currently have NS7 installed in the Netscape > Communicator folder. QUESTION 1: When I install NS7.01, will it automatically copy my profiles so that my bookmarks, saved mail, addresses, etc. and those of my wife are there when we boot the new version up? QUESTION 2: Should I wait to uninstall the previous versions if NS I have after the complete installation of NS7.01? My plan (I think) is to keep NS 4.7 but get rid of NS7 using Windows uninstall. Is there a better way to do this than I outline above? Thank you.

I'm with you: I'll await a streamlined version. I'm not about to jump on the Happy Netscape Train for yet another 30 MB download only to be told two months down the road that I need to download yet another 30 MB to "fix" a dozen more bugs. I suppose if I had broadband, like 5% of the user population, I wouldn't care. But being a poor dial-up shnook, I'll forego the excitement and hoopla. Been there and done that.

I think that I wasted enough time that I can give you some tips.
1.Nothing will happen automatically, and, to be a bit safer, I installed in a separate folder. If you install in the Communicator folder, I have no idea what can happen since you would be mixing the 4.x files and the 7.0x files. I, originally installed in the Netscape folder, and, at least Communicator stayed by itself, although everything else was all over. Just to be simple I would install in Program Files/Netscape/Netscape7.01 so that you would have it all its file in one folder. You will have to enter that information when you start the installation. You can put Netscape anywhere you please.
2.I will get rid of 7.0 whever I like to, if 7.01 works ok. I did not create a profile just for 7.01, and that is safe to do, but beware of any themes other than Modern (I did not test Classic). And keep 4.x
