I recently reinstalled Windows XP Pro, and went through all of the updates for XP. When I tried to install Communicator (a coupla different versions) it would reach a certain point and die (I'll describe that point in a second). I'd get the "would you like to report this problem to microsoft" dialogue and that was that.
Ok, as for when it dies...
- Choose either custom or typical install
- "Netscape Desktop Preference Options" dialoge box appear (you know the one, checkboxes with "Make Netscape.com my home page" or "Make Netscape Communicator my default internet browser")
- Hit next on the above dialog box, it sits for a second, hangs, then I get the dialoge box: "InstallShield Engine EXE has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" "Please tell Microsoft about this problem." Send Error Report or Don't Send.
Now, obviously there is a problem here with the install engine as an element of Windows. Since Netscape is an older install, I'm sure that there is a disconnect there, question is, what's the solution?
Also, I booted into the ultra stripped down windows "safe mode" so there was nothing else running. So, I am pretty sure that it's an ultra basic windows installer issue...
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated...
Sam
