Installing Communicator 4.x WITHOUT Navigator!

Postby Mandrake » Mon 18 Nov, 2002 2:53 am

Is it at all possible to Install Communicator 4.x without Navigator? The browser is a little out of date - but the Email, Calendar and Composer are really good! I want to use Netscape 7.0 (Navigator Only) Instead of Navigator 4.x, so I do not need Navigator 4.x, any ideas people?

No, Navigator must be installed.
However you can use Communicator's Mail/newsgroup with Netscape 7's Navigator.

Netscape 4.x and Netscape 7 can peacefully coexist on the same system, so you can use the components of each that you want. Just do not use the 4.x browser, but continue to use its E-mail component. Unless you are desperate for room, this approach should work. Keeping NS4.x as a backup is a good idea in general.

You could even download a SillyDog CCK version of Netscape 7 that omits the Mail/News package if you really do not want it around.
