Installing OpenOffice.org 3.0 on Ubuntu 8.10.

Ubuntu comes pre-installed with OpenOffice.org 2.6.
The latest version, according to, none other than, OpenOffice.org, is 3.0.
The latest version in the Repositories is 2.6.
Now, I can download a .deb file from the OO website, which is just a bunch of other .deb packages, that seem to, do well, nothing, because they rely on dependencies that are not there, and that I do not know how to get there.

So, my question is, does anyone know how to install OO 3.0 in Ubuntu?

Once you've done that you'll find OpenOffice 3.0.1 in Office


Followed his instructions, and I now have OpenOffice.org 3.0.1.

Sorry to reply to an old topic but I believe Ubuntu uses Go-OO.

No. Ubuntu uses the regular OpenOffice.org as stated on their website, and as available in the repos and as available on the first install in the program manger.

Taken from Go-OO website:
Ubuntu
Ubuntu provides Go-OO in their repositories. To install it just type as root

# apt-get install openoffice.org


If you look on: http://www.ubuntu.com/products/whatisub ... p/features

You'll see the regular OpenOffice as the office suite.

Linux.com says otherwise. Though, I must say for a few years they've been full of it. Musta been why Linux.com was bought by the Linux foundation.

I don't know. I have seen it on the ubuntu forums that it's the regular OO. Not to mention the OO in the repos is 2.4.

Yup. Anyway, I thought you'd like to know, that in a last stitch effort to ditch Windows, I threw away my re-install disc for Vista x64.

You still have a license for it, I'm sure?

So if worst comes to worst, you can ask your buddies for their Windows Vista install media.

I am also under warranty with Dell, and worst comes to worst, I call them, and they send me one.

But that includes "try me!" & "buy me!" software. When ever I get a machine from Dell or another OEM, I go and find my Windows [version] install CD.

Not if you use the base installation of the operating system.
