invalid page fault

Postby Dave G » Sat 28 Dec, 2002 7:48 pm

A few weeks ago I sent for and recieved the new Netscape 7 disc. I loaded it and it looked great. The next day I went to open Netscape and this message came up.
NETSCP caused an invalid page fault in
module GKLAYOUT.DLL at 0167:603db728.

So I then unistalled it and reloaded. Everything was fine until I shut down my PC overnight and the next day when I tried to open it I got the same message. It seems that as long as I leave my PC on I can open it without any trouble. It's when I shut it down and try to open it again is when I get the message. Not everytime but 99% of the time. So I sent a message off to Netscape support and they told me how to completely delete any old Netscape files and start fresh. I did that and the same thing keeps happening. Bad part is now I don't have my old Netscape 6 to use in the meatime.
So I heard that maybe there was a corrupt file in the disc I ordered so I then unistalled it and downloaded a copy from this site. Same problem again. I can't open instant messenger or the mail and newsgroups either. Netscape support suggested I change my user profile but I can't open that either. I get the same "invalid page fault" message whenever I try to open anything associated with Netscape 7.
So anytime I need to access the internet I need to reload Netscpae 7.
Any suggestion
Thanks
Dave

Take a look at the above. I don't know what is happening to you, because I had this problem a few times and only with some unstable nightlies. I have some ideas, but I have to think about them. In the meantime, although it is perfectly ok to uninstall Netscape, do not delete the Profile(s). Why don't you download Mozilla 1.2.1, create a new profile for it, and see what happens. Put in the same e-mail account(s) that you had in Netscape, and, see how it flies. Then, you can copy the files with no extention , like Inbox and Sent from the old to the new profile. You can do the same of the bookmarks. Since you have Win98, the profile folders are in C:/windows/application data/mozilla/profiles/ Try this. You should, at least have mail.

Al, I'd suggest that if you have nothing real to contribute, please don't contribute anything. It just so happens that I can't do anything wit that stack dump. We don't want to see your emoticons either. Thanks.

Fulvio,

Thank you for your relpy and suggestion. I did download Mozilla 1.2.1, but when I tried to open it after a shut down I got the same "invalid page fault " message I get with Netscape.

Hi,
Try netscape communicator 4.79 or 4.08 those should work fine even with a system that has problems.

Did you create a different profile? The error you have has been known, but it should not be all over. But you have to make sure that you are using a different profile.
