Apple has released iOS 4 (new name for iPhone OS 4) for iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch (second generation and later).

iOS 4 brings over 100 new features, including multitasking, folders, Mail improvements, iBook support and more. The operating system is compatible with iPhone 3G, 3GS, and 4, as well as second- and third-generation iPod touch models. Not all features are compatible with all devices, however, with features such as multitasking, custom wallpaper, and Bluetooth keyboard support requiring a minimum of an iPhone 3GS or third-generation iPod touch.

And upgrading to iOS 4 may take a while...

If you still use the iPhone 3G (released in July 2008) like the poor Antony and you recently installed iOS 4, you might found your iPhone 3G became slower than before, and some applications might crash unexpectedly.

Here's a solution for you: a hard reboot.

Normally we don't bother rebooting the iPhone at all. Occasionally we restart the iPhone to solve some issues. What we meant by normal restart is as following:
Press and hold the top sleep/wake button until you get the red slider, then slide it to turn the phone off, and then turn it back on again.

In order to force the iOS to rebuild (a step that seems to optimise a variety of things), you need to press and hold the Sleep/Wake button along with the Home button for about ten seconds (the screen will blink), which will kill the phone and initiate a reboot. That's all.

iPhone 3GS users shouldn't have issues with iOS 4. And if you are one of those lucky iPhone 4 owners, you can simply ignore this entry.
