Cute article, Edward. Mind you... there are reasons for this and they have a great deal to do with geeks, professionals and everyday folks skewing the results. And when I consider my stepson who works for Microsoft as does his wife... both of whom have very, very high IQs and both of whom use IE9 (naturally) over against the clod with whom I work who uses Firefox, I'm not convinced of the results.

It sounds like a research paper, and, as such, probably true, but of limited application.
Where do they put me, age 79 in a few days, and unable to afford a new computer, and, so, stuck with IE8.
I, also, am dissatisfied with all browser, looking at as many as six different browsers per day. I need something, and reject the useless as well as the troublesome.

AOL/Huffington Post is reporting this as a hoax, their link below contains a video, which contains some interesting tidbits.

Ha. Interesting video, Edward. Thanks for reporting it. It seems that clowns/fanboys and just jerks are always going to be out there with their exaggerations and falsehoods. As the reporter advised: "We need to check and recheck our stories before running with them."

So, according to the report, the smartest users use Opera, followed by Camino, then IE with Chrome Frame, then Safari, and followed by Chrome before Firefox. Must not an exciting news for Mozilla/Firefox guys.

It is also interesting to note that the Mac only Camino :camino: is ranked very high, way ahead of Mozilla's flagship Firefox.

Likely an Opera fanboy started the whole thing. I've dealt with a few in the distant past over on the Opera forum and they can be very, very rabid in their quest to generate support for a browser that has less than 2% of the overall user-base.

Thank you James. It is a very assuring news, since Internet Explorer is still the most popular browser.

Guess what? My IQ has gone down a few more notches with the latest FF6 beta, from beta whatever to beta whatever+1. The build is 20110804, although you would never know.
But wait a minute! Could it be a b5?

My FF just updated. It's become crazy with this insane race to keep apace of Chrome. I've decided to just ignore it from this point on. My wife smiles since she's given up FF entirely in returning to IE... in her case, IE9.

Fulvio, you crack me up. :)

James,

Have you considered SeaMonkey? I know it feels a bit Netscape, but it is Firefox engine (just a bit behind), and it does not jump the number that crazy.

That's the least I can do. But, if you can't fight them, join them, though subversively.
And, to Antony, as well as James, if your settings for updates are to let you know, and not automatically install, and ignore the warning, your sanity will prevail. I did not have to update Firefox, as well as Seamonkey 2.2, which is my default. I reported elsewhere that it sneaked an update to 2.3 beta, and my mail was unreadable.
I have not found anything objectionable about Seamonkey 2.2, but you have to watch it.

Yes, I did consider it, Antony. In fact, I actually downloaded it and played with it for a few days. It's a great suite and were it not for the fact that I use Windows Live Mail, I might have considered it as a great alternative to FF. But I see little point in using a suite like SeaMonkey simply for the browser portion and then, only because of the crazy manner in which FF is updating. Like Fulvio mentioned, if you can't beat them, then you might as well join them even though it might be in a subversive manner. LOL

Now, it's been many years since I used Thunderbird as my default e-mail client. I gave it up years ago because I adopted webmail almost exclusively. In the past few months I've started using my pop mail account a bit more (with family and close friends) and hence I"ve resurrected Windows Live Mail. The beauty of this pop mail is that it lets me bring in my gmail and hotmail accounts into one central place to be read. The question is: will Thunderbird let me do this as well?

Never mind. I was able to add my gmail and hotmail accounts very easily to T-bird and frankly, it looks much better than either Windows Live Mail or Outlook (well... a far sight BETTER than Outlook). So, right now I'm perfectly content with what I have. :)
