Is 7.02 the latest and last for Mac OS 9.2x

Postby rons » Thu 22 Apr, 2004 8:04 pm

I am new to this site.
I think I had seen and downloaded previously a higher version then Netscape 7.02 for Mac OS 9.2X but I could be wrong?
I lost the drive I thought I saved it to.
I am currently running Netscape 7.02 under Mac OS 9.2.2.
My hw isn't friendly/useable/stable on higher Mac OS #.
Is Netscape 7.02 the latest/only available version for Mac OS 9X?

Hello RonS, and welcome to the forum!

Netscape 7.02 is indeed the last version that will run on Mac OS 9.2.x. It is essentially a repackaged version of Mozilla 1.0.2. Development of Mozilla versions for Mac OS 8/9 continued through 1.2.1, but then ceased. Netscape 7.1, the only currently available Netscape version newer than 7.02, is based upon Mozilla 1.4, and is available for Mac OS X only. Fortunately, Netscape 7.02 remains a viable browser for Mac OS 8/9 users for now, although most new Macintosh software development by far is for Mac OS X.

Disable tabbing in 7.02

Postby rons » Thu 22 Apr, 2004 8:51 pm

I had problems with 7.0x on a diesel version that I had downloded at the same time as I had downloaded the Mac OS version, the windows version had some problems.
I thought I would have the same problems that I had with the windows version on the Mac version, so far on OS 9.2.2 I have not have had any of the same problems with 7.02.
Knock , knock, knock, (that is the sound of wood).
I was concerned that the Mac platform might have problems also.
In the MS (7.1) ver you could kill tabbed windows, you couldn't do that in 7.0, it was a prefreance that was not enabled in 7.0x .
Is there any way to kill tabs in Mac OS netscape 7.02, (I live with resEdit or most other Mac tools).
Help.
Ron

Mozilla 1.2.1

Postby Don_HH2K » Tue 11 May, 2004 8:27 pm

If you want the latest Gecko release that runs on MacOS 9, you should look at Mozilla 1.2.1. As long as you don't use the AOL features like WebMail, AOL Mail, and AOL Instant Messenger, you should be fine with this release. If you wanted AIM you can still use the standalone client if you have CartonLib 1.3.1 or later. As for Webmail, it's just that: mail that you can check on the web without an e-mail client.

Otherwise, you can compile from source code yourself, if you are capable of doing so.

Mozilla 1.4 or higher *will not* compile and work on Mac OS 9. Mozilla 1.3.1 can be compiled to run on OS 9, however.

Downloading Netscape 7.02

Postby Mountain_Gate » Tue 22 Jun, 2004 9:50 am

Greetings,

Like RonS, I too am new to the finer details of Netscape. Am using 4.79 on Macintosh OS9.2.2

My server tells me I should go
NS 7.1. The response to RonS clearly also points me to NS7.02.

Will someone please clarify where and how I find NS7.02 in suitable form? I had trouble locating it in a 'downloadable' form.
But then hey I have trouble boiling water. (forget to turn the switch on)

Regards, Gert.
