Is Firefox Doomed?

Postby James » Sun 04 Dec, 2011 12:13 pm

Just a few years ago, Mozilla's Firefox browser was rising fast as the chief challenger to Microsoft's stubbornly dominant Internet Explorer. Things change pretty fast in the world of Internet technology, however, and today Firefox's once bright future seems much less certain.

Thank you for the article.

Mozilla, as we all know it, started as open-source of the good old Netscape. Not long after, it was not difficult to sense the change: it became not just an alternative option for those who do not wish to use Internet Explorer, but also anti-Netscape.

The decisions became more and more extreme over the years. Perhaps they got more and more youngsters, particularly those in college with very strong opinions. And a common characters of those youngsters is: they can't live without the latest of whatsoever. It is not just those individuals who rush for the latest themselves, but also have a great interests on pushing the public.

There are quite a few other browsers available for iOS (IPhone, iPad), About.com pointed out a few.

The deal is done and dusted, the dotted lines have again been signed for Mozilla and Google.
It would seem Firefox is safe for at least the forseeable future ... financially at least.

Neowin.net article - Google renews search agreement with Firefox.

SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

Saw that yesterday. I'm glad it was renewed. :)

I don't know how may actually know this, but the public can make a donation to the Mozilla Foundation. The main donation page is here, which includes a link to a paper donation form (PDF) if someone wants to mail in a contribution.

Link to paper donation form.

If using the paper form to mail a donation, the donation can be directed to a particular project (Bugzilla, Calendar, Camino, SeaMonkey, Mozilla Accessibility, a Parks project, or a Drumbeat Project).

The online page for donating to the SeaMonkey project is here.
