Is NIM functional without Mail/News component?

Postby profman » Mon 13 Jan, 2003 4:41 pm

A user may choose to install NIM without Mail/News if both components are optional. I know that Mail/News, except WebMail, functions without NIM.

Does NIM function without Mail/News being installed???

Good question.
The quick guess: it should work.
You can test it with Netscape 7.01 Streamline, I've made NIM and Mail/News both optional in Streamline.

(Antony added me to the group this evening. Thanks Antony!)

I've actually read that NIM would not work if Mail/News were not installed.

I've also read that for NIM to work, you have to check your Netscape WebMail account as well.

Whether or not these are true??? <shrug>

well, I going to tell you the result.
Does NIM function without Mail/News being installed???
Yes.

Testing from Netscape 7.02 Streamline (preview build 4), with Nav, NIM (AIM) installed, but not MailNews.

The BuddyList (from the Sidebar panel) appears working fine. (using my main profile, already have WebMail enabled.)
