issues reformating a friends emachine

Okay first of I hate the R word hate having to do it scarey.
But this guy know nothing about computers nortons nothing. Had his puter maybe 2 months. Full of viruses. Did all I knew to do to avoid reformatting. But now its what I ended up having to do, but it gets to about 87 to 90% done and there is a problem. It seems to be wanting a floppy and his computer did not come with 1 it came with the 3 restore disk, which the last one is just the drivers. Read all his books which I never do reformatting itsn't hard anyway, but there is no mention of a diskett coming with this system he is running windows XP of course.
But now I'm totally stuck. I need help if anyone has run across this problem before plese let me know what I need to do, or if he should just ship it back for new 1. Any help would be great.
Thanks Tammy101

You make it sound like this is a fairly new system which would still be under warrenty. Call the Tech-Help people either for the company that makes the system or those at the store that sell this system. Ask them if there is, perhaps, a hidden restore partition on the HD. The technicians should be able to advise you on how use the Restore CDs. They may also offer to send you new or replacement Restore CDs (which also will probably not work). Finally, they should be able to make arrangements to have the system sent back to them, restored to factory specs, and then mailed back to your friend. This all sholud be done free-of-charge if the system is still under warrenty.

Others may have more technically oriented answers to your problem. Be sure to mention the brand, model, and any other specifications of the system that you are working on.

windows 98 boot disk, for windows XP? okay now I'm really confused.
I think his best bet is to pack it up and send in to the company that makes emachines. As much as I want to help him, with this error popping up I can't do anything with it. I've talked to a few people with the same kind of computer and they do not come with A diskett.
Its an emachine OS XP home, 2.6 W series.

Postby Purple Lizard » Sun 25 Jul, 2004 8:12 am

when i formatted my own emachines 270 i just booted from my xp pro cd and did a clean install and it worked for me. If the PC has white casing it is an older version if like the 270 it is black and silver it's a newer model and you should call the technical support, the number should ne in the documentation or on the black and silver variants it's also behind below the front usb ports, behind the slide up cover
