It's so easy to install an application in a Mac

Let's take an example of recently released Netscape 7.2

Now, let me show you the steps to install it in a Mac

Once downloaded.

Step 1
Double click the file (disk image) you've downloaded.
Image

Step 2
Agree to the license agreement.

Step 3
Drag it to your Applications folder. That's all.

In fact, you can drop it to any location you wish.

Just 3 simple steps

Step 7

Step 8
Specify if you want to use Quick Launch.

Step 9

You need to click Install.

Step 11
Followed by a long progress of wait.

Don't you think it's a bit ridiculous when you only need 3 simple steps in a Mac?

You need 11 complicated steps in Windows

Indeed . . . you get the entire Netscape browser suite, no choices . . . that's the only problem with
installing Netscape and/or Mozilla on Mac OS X, while you get all choices on Windows and Linux.

Actually, the Mac OS classic versions of Netscape 6.x/7.x (and Mozilla) had an installation wizard
with a custom setup option. Why they chose to remove this from the Mac OS X versions, I don't
know. It may well be easier to just drag and drop the app into a folder, but as much as I like
the Mac, I don't like installers that have no custom setup option. I like to have choice.

In fact, I recommend it . . .

When you know the software only contains the components you want, the fewer steps to install, the better it is.

That's as maybe. But the majority of ordinary computer users don't know that certain choices
(usually better choices) are available to them. That's part of the reason why both Windows
and IE, have become two of the world's most widely used computer software programs.

That's so Windows, as a Mac user, we need to do things the Mac way.
