Apple today posted the second update to iTunes 8, making the version to 8.0.2. In addition to the standard statement about improving the stability and performance of iTunes, a list of important bug fixes was also provided.

iTunes 8.0.2 improves stability and performance and provides a number of important bug fixes, including:

  • Addresses a quality issue creating MP3s on some computers.
  • Fixes a connectivity issue with the iTunes Store when using some Internet proxies with Mac OS X.
  • Improves accessibility with VoiceOver.

iTunes 8 includes the new breakthrough Genius feature, which lets you automatically create playlists from songs in your music library that go great together—with just one click. Genius helps music fans rediscover favorite songs in their existing music library and suggests related music on the iTunes Store they might want to add to their music collection. iTunes 8 features new ways of viewing your music and video libraries, and adds television programs in stunning high definition for sale on the iTunes Store.

iTunes 8’s new visual browsing interface displays your music and video libraries using your album and video covers, and also provides a great way to navigate your movies, TV shows, iPhone apps, podcasts and audiobooks.

Along with the ability to generate playlists of similar songs, the Genius playlist feature also lets those playlists update based on the music in your library. According to Apple, information about your iTunes library is transmitted to Apple when you use the Genius feature, but the company stated that the data is sent anonymously and aggregated with data from other iTunes users.

iTunes 8 is available as a free download for Mac OS X and Windows users at Apple's iTunes Web site.
