iTunes is a nuisance in XP

Postby Fulvio » Tue 24 Feb, 2015 2:17 pm

I have had problems with iTunes updating painfully slowly in XP, but it reached a peak yesterday, with the newest update.
I know that I have the insecure and puny XP, but the installation is a pain. It took one hour to the end, at which time, I was told that there was an error. I had to do the all thing over again. After a total of two hours, I had the update.
Then, I tried a couple of download. After another hour, I had a three song CD (out of 13), and no more. Five of the songs were in my Library. I was logged in, but I had to renter my UN/password. On the third try, I was allowed to listen to my songs, and, although all songs appeared to be in the library, only 3 of the actual five could be burnt.
The songlist was all scrambled.
I, finally, gave up, and went to my laptop. I don't, nor care to find out if some problem were with miserable update, I did not update my laptop. It tool twenty seconds to see the missing ten songs, and a few more minutes to burn the CD.
The album cover had not been downloaded, because that feature was not checked in my Preferences, although other unwanted choices were checked by default.
By the way when I tried to contact Apple, I got a "cannot find URL".

Thanks Apple!

I don't want to sound rude, but after reading your XP problems for quite a while, can I suggest you perform a clean installation of Windows XP?

Antony,

i have, never, experienced any issue with XP, other than with iTunes. I know that I should get a more secure system, but money is in the way. I would like input from someone who has XP, and can, still, use the computer.
Almost everything has slowed down, over time, but no program has been affected as badly as iTunes.

iTunes was wonderful in XP, when compared with Win 10. I works fine in my laptop, but it never worked in my desktop.

iTunes has gone from earlier sleek music jukebox which worked nicely and beautifully to today's huge package which not just music, but all sorts of features including TV shows, movies, podcasts, online radio etc, on top of it, it is the requirement application to configure iPods iPhones and iPads.

What I am saying is... you need a reasonably equipped (powerful) computer to run it smoothly these days.

I haven't upgraded to Windows 10 yet myself. I believe it should be compatible, but not sure how well it works.

Kind of late, but I have, now, computer as well as laptop with Win10.
No issue with the laptop, but the computer offers to update iTunes, at least twice a week. Are there so many updates?

Pretty sure there are honestly. Every machine I own that has iTunes installed is constantly bugging for an update.

Now, I can't take iTunes seriously anymore. I, just, got a request to update to v.12.2.3. This time I checked iTunes before the update. It was 12.2.3.17. After the "successful" update, it was, still, 12.2.3.17.
Then, it went to check for new updates. An, lo and behold, it was to 12.2.3. I don't have the time to see how long this joke would go on.
