Updates are, particularly, painful. iTunes is huge, and it takes forever to update. Typically, I must allow up to an hour for any update. But, I have seen, more and more, some problem redeeming music offered, e.g., by Starbuck. My latest experience was with a ten-track playlist, "Summer Soundtrack". When I entered the code, I was given an "unknown error", and it quit. I tried again, later, it gave the name error, but soon after that I was informed that the code was redeemed, but, then, nothing happened. I reported this to iTunes tech support, and after three days, I got no acknowledgment from them. This is in the same ball park, as when I had, originally, purchased music through AOL username, but, after dropping AOL, I decided to get an iTunes username. It took me several attempts, and, nearly, ten months to regain my music, which I had, legally, purchased.
And, periodically, when I try to play those track in a protected format, iTunes tells me that it can't find them.
Look who is talking about "stealing music"!
