Java Console opens by itself

Postby Edward » Sun 29 Dec, 2002 9:03 pm

On http://www.fishermansfriend.com/world.htm, if you click the UK link, the Java Console also opens up by itself in a new window.

Bad coding on the page perhaps?

I did not bother looking, but, I noticed that when I picked three other countries, they behaved normally. Actually it was the Javascript Console, which I never saw before, not the Java Console, and it had a grey background., and that's all.

I stand corrected.

It is indeed the JavaScript Console that opens by itself...

Hi,
How does it open by itself and what browser are you using.
It does not open by it self that does not make any sence.
I hope your not lying.

Greetings,

I took a look at http://www.fishermansfriend.com/world.htm for you.

Using Netscape 7.01, clicking on "UK" opens up two windows. One with product information and the other is the JavaScript Console with a bunch of errors.

The first error in the list is:

Code: Select all
Error: mnu_ID12 is not defined
Source File: http://office.microsoft.com/Services/category.aspx?cid=4&HelpLCID=1003
Line: 107

Searching the source of the page the error is pointing to for "mnu_ID12" yields the following line of code:

Code: Select all
<td id="mnu_ID12" class="Font8pt" onmouseout="javascript:MouseOutMenu('mnu_ID12')" onmouseover="javascript:MouseOverMenu('mnu_ID12')" bgcolor="#E7E7E7" height="21" style="border-width:1px;border-style:solid;border-color:#E7E7E7;"><font color="#666666">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<a class='Menu' href='/Assistance/default.aspx'>Assistance Center</a></font></td>

It looks like an attempt to build a menu.

Using IE 6.0, to go to http://www.fishermansfriend.com/world.htm, and then clicking on UK, yields only one product info window. No JavaScript errors reported.

Chalk up the JavaScript errors to code that is proprietary to IE or that Netscape 7.01 may not be conforming to W3C standards or flawed code that IE skips over.
