Java in Netscape 4.77

Postby muhnelakne » Tue 10 Jun, 2008 3:36 pm

I downloaded a newer version of Java the other day but Netscape 4.77 is still using the old version of Java. I went to the Java Plug-in Control Panel on my computer and under the advanced tab, selected JRE 1.4.2_17 as the Java Runtime Environment to use. But when I open my Netscape 4.77 browser and select Communicator -> Tools -> Java Console, it shows Java 1.1.5 in the Java Console window that pops up. Is there a way for me to change the version of Java that Netscape 4.77 uses to the newer one?

Thanks,
Melanie

The newer versions of Java may not be compatible with such an outdated version of Netscape. If you like an all-in-one suite, you may want to try Mozilla's SeaMonkey, or you could try their Firefox and Thunderbird.

Melanie, if, for some reason you want to stick with a Netscape which is way way obsolete, you could try to download a java version from Sunsystems archives . You can go to the Add/Remove, and uninstall extra versions. You should have only one version installed. You must have more than one java version installed.
