SuSE Linux 8.2 installs KDE by default, so tonight I thought I would take a look at Gnome.
Although Gnome took much less time to load in than KDE, I was somewhat troubled by a few things about Gnome. Some of the default fonts were difficult to read (i.e. the desktop fonts), and the text inside the clock was so small, I almost required a magnifying glass to see it. Unlike KDE, I could not change the Gnome clock, except to display 12/24/UTC/Unix/Internet time, and the date.
I was able to launch Opera from its existing installation, however when I attempted to select the red "O" icon for it, Gnome did not automatically display a directory path outside of Gnome, I had to manually type in part of the actual path, then was able to navigate to where the icons were located.
The Mozilla-based Galeon browser that installs with Gnome, was decent.
