Here the forum thread on the KnightRiderOnline Forums, and the actual sale of KITT on eBay.

If only I had a spare US$60,000 or more on me, I'd snap that up without hesitation!

Interesting......lol.
In 1974 I had a car that was always giving me a hard time.
So one lunch hour I went out and bought a 1973 Dodge Swinger.
It was red, had a black vinyl top, and those windows that you could open
all of them, without a bar in the middle. Hardtop maybe? I forget what they called them.
It was a nice car and only had 18,000 miles on it.
So I bought and paid for it.
I went back to work and told everyone I had bought a car and they were so surprised that I had just decided on the spot. They said, "You bought it without your husband knowing?" I said, "Yes" It's my own money.
Well, my hubby nearly died when I told him I had bought a second hand car by myself. But when he saw it and tried it, he thought it was pretty nice.
I know nothing about cars except how to drive.

A funny thing about that car, I had young boys about 18 -20 yrs. old always asking me if I wanted to sell it. This was a couple of years later, they would knock on my door. I never knew why. Then I went to the local garage to gas up and the kid that served me, said "did you tell so and so he had first choice when you sold the car?" I didn't know who he was talking about, nor did I know the fella I was talking to. I said, "NO"
but why are you all so interested in my car?

It seems it had a 318 HP motor and evidently a lot of speed.
The kids wanted it for the speed. It was a light car, and yes I remember my hubby using it once and he said it had a lot of power, he said when he started off at a light or something the wheels were screeching, I said, "It does that all the time to me." LOL. I thought there was something wrong with it. I kept it for 10 yrs.

I really liked that car though. I should have preserved it, maybe it would be worth a lot of money today....on EBAY of course....:)

DJGM,
Are you allowed to drive a car that's manufactured to run on the other side of the road?

I guess the UK drives on the left, and Americans? Well, they drive on the wrong side of the road.

I personally am not allowed to drive any car. I don't have a drivering licence, and I can't drive!

UK law allows left hand drive vehicles to be driven on UK roads, as long as they're classified
as safe and roadworthy, have proper legal number plates on the back and the front, and
a valid tax disc clearly displayed on the bottom left corner of the windshield.

As for that restored original "KITT" car up for sale on eBay, that won't be "street legal" unless
certain conditions are met. The Knight Industries gullwing steering wheel must be replaced
with a standard round one. The dash mounted TV monitors must be switched off while the
car is being driven as these could be a dangerous distraction. (Although I suppose one of
the monitors could be setup with a custom satellite navigation system.) And KITT's red
scanner light at the front of the car must also be switched off while the car is being
driven as these could easily distract other motorists.

Come to think of it, the entire "KITT" car could well be a distraction to other motorists.
If a road user looks at his/her rear view mirror and sees KITT being driven by, just
imagine the potentially dangerous double takes, leading to possible accidents!

And that's a slightly controversial opinion!

Why not?

The 318 cubic inch (5.2 litre) Chrysler V8 was Chrysler Corporation's universal-fit motor, they used 'em in pickups, luxury cars, family station wagons, etc. from about 1961 to, well, 2001 IIRC.

Good motor, not TERRIBLY powerful, but it could make a "small" car like a Dart Swinger move around fairly well 8-) Swinger from about '73 would make about 200 to 210 "real"* horsepower.

But most Darts and Swingers had the 225 cubic inch (3.7 litre) "slant 6", reliable but slow - about 80 to 85 horsepower...

We drive on the "right" side of the road. :)
