Laptop wont start

Postby cae » Wed 24 Nov, 2004 11:34 pm

G3 Mac laptop (WallStreet model) suddenly will not start up even with battery ejected. Power cord OK. Is it due to a bad PRAM batter, to a bad logic board , to ?? I have opened it all up (with FixItGuide) but don't know what to do. Thx

Try to put the battery in, and charge it up and see if you can boot it up.

thx ..... I thought a laptop would start up w/o a battery as long as you arfe connected to the wall plug (house power) through the adapter that came with the laptop.

I personally do not recommend using a laptop with out the battery (by connecting to mains). Although some believe in such way, you can preserve the life time of the battery.

For newer models, there are better charging methods, so leaving battery on (with power connected) won't shorten the battery life.
For older models, those batteries have limited life cycle... you can't prolong much.

That's not always true with batteries. If you have a lead-acid, NiCad, or NiMH battery, that will actually decrease the life of the battery. I had to learn the hard way with three expensive $20 camcorder batteries.

Just thought it might be useful to anybody in such a situation, although most laptops now ship with Lithium Ion batteries.
