Launching/opening files

Postby paul » Wed 20 Nov, 2002 11:57 am

In previous Netscapes, I was able to download video (avi, mpeg) files; I used Download Accelerator. In Netscape 7, these files are always launched (played) instead of downloaded.

I have disabled Quick Launch. In checking under Helper Applications, the only type displayed is 'text/html' so I can't disable to launch function here.

How do I get back to simply downloading these files.

You may want to take a look at your Preferences/Navigator/Downloads
I don't need DA, having cable, but, maybe the bottom option may work.

One way to reset how at least some files are handled is done by going to Preferences|Navigator(click on the + to expand the list)|Helper Applications and press the Reset button under "Opening files." This may or may not solve your problem. You will now be asked whether you want to open or download some files when you click on their link.

Many times you can right-click a file and choose an option involving "save" file or link that may allow files to be downloaded directly.
