Let me explain my avatar

Postby Josh » Fri 12 Dec, 2003 5:40 pm

Some have had questions about my anti-Santa image. First off, I am not anti-Santa Claus, the person. In fact, I believe in Santa. What I am against the way Santa has been used as a way to encourage people to shop, and spend--therefore eroding what I believe christmas means--giving and helping others.

Sadly, Christmas has turned into Corp-mas and Santa Claus has been transformed from a giver of hope and love into a corporate pitchman.

That is what my avatar is against.

Thank you for your explanation.
However, I would like to point out that to many people (particularly the youngsters), all Christmas about is gifts.

There's nothing wrong with making Christmas as a shopping spree. All retailers need to make profit to survive, and many of them do not generate enough during the year, specially in a small country like New Zealand. Also there are people looking for additional cash into their pockets.
