Loading error in Netscape 4.7: JS3240.DLL

Postby JudyChicago » Tue 30 Mar, 2004 5:26 pm

While Netscape 4.7 is loading at about 30% loaded I receive an error notice that Netscape has caused an error in JS3240.DLL and will now close. Try restarting your computer.

This does not correct the problem. How can I correct it.

While I'm not entirely sure, I believe this error may be caused by a bug in the JavaScript rendering engine in earlier Netscape 4.7x releases. I would recommend upgrading your installation to Netscape Communicator 4.8 and seeing if the problem is still present.

Did you recently install any software or upgrade your Windows operating system? JS3240.DLL appears to be a Netscape 4.x file located in the C:\Program Files\Netscape\Communicator\Program directory for my Netscape 4.79 version. You might try replacing this DLL file or upgrading to Netscape 4.80, which may or may not help this problem. Others will probably post more helpful advice.

Of course, the other suggestion is to just use Netscape or Mozilla for all of your browser/E-mail functions. Netscape 7.1 leaks some resources on Windows 9X operating systems, including Windows ME, so some people prefer Netscape 7.02 for those OSs. (However, there currently is a rumor of a later Netscape release past the 7.1 version.) Mozilla 1.6 is also very stable. Post back if if desire any advice on this, although I see that you used Netscape 7.1 to post your question.

Problems in paradise (Netscape 4.7)

Postby JudyChicago » Fri 02 Apr, 2004 2:42 pm

Thank you for answering.

I am always loading, updating. This is the first time I began getting this particular message with the opening to 30% then stopping. I can't remember if I was doing the above before this happened.

How does one replace a DLL file?

I use Netscape to access the Internet, mail etc, and those icons are at the top of my uploaded page, but I use Earthlink(I hate their e-mail system) beneath the Netscape name, File, Edit etc.

Without appearing completely stupid, I dont know from Mozilla or how I would use it for what.

Judy,
since you are using NS7.1, or your User Agent says so, Mozilla would do just about anything that NS7.1 does, with a few exceptions. NS7.1 is based on Moz1.4. But, you are having a problem with NS4.7. Since you seem to have problems loading the program, in first place, I would create a new profile first. And being a new problem, I can't see that you may have disabled javascript, which has been given as a cause for this, when browsing.
I would uninstall first, from the Control Panel Add/Remove, your NS 4.x. You will not lose any mail and such, and then reinstall the program. Something may have gone bad in your program.
