Location Of Java Plugin Preference Option File For Comm. 4.8

Postby roreinhart » Thu 02 Jan, 2003 6:35 pm

Does anyone know where the above file is located on the Sun Microsystems web site (or elsewhere)? I can't find it anywhere!
In the Communicator 4.8 Release Notes under "Java and JavaScript", the following paragraph appears:

"Java Plug-in Support. A new Java plug-in preference option allows users to take advantage of the latest Sun Java plug-in (available for free at http//java.sun.com). When enabled, the Sun Java plug-in delivers an improved user experience for Java-enabled sites and completely replaces Netscape Java."

Java Ver. 1.4.1 may have incorporated this file in it but I know that Java Ver. 1.3.1 lacks it. (My computer is too slow for Ver. 1.4.1) The Java 1.3.1 Console offers a choice of IE or Netscape 6 but nothing takes place in Communicator 4.8, even if you check Netscape 6. My Communicator 4.8 insists on using only Netscape Java and completely ignores the Java 1.3.1. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi,
I recommend to leave netscapes java in there. When you download and install java form sun it takes too much memory even on my system and I have a 766 MHZ prossessor running windows 98 (downgraded from windows ME). Yes I downgraded from windows ME to windows because I own windows 98 on cd and I need the dos mode. I am a dos expret. So I do not recommend that you get suns java netscapes java works just fine.

I wish Phoenix could use the built-in Java from NS 4.79. The plugin hasn't worked as well for me, some applets like the "Lake" are broken.
