Macromedia Flash 7 website search engine opimisation

Postby JohnDP » Mon 19 Jul, 2004 5:57 am

This is my first time on this forum. I've just had a website built in Macromedia Flash 7. Since then (not being particularly clued up on web building) I've discovered that most web designers don't use Flash because it is subsequently very difficult to get it up high in the search engine rankings. Can anyone suggest ways to get my site up there please? Is it true that header tags, alt tags, metanames are impossible to add to Flash sites? Also, I've heard of SALSA as a way to promote Flash sites but the feedback I've had on SALSA seems to say that it doesn't work and I would be wasting my money. So is my Flash site doomed to being search engine invisible? Will I need to have a complete new website built in HTML?

To get your website "optimised" for search engine...
Work on good content, and have more text based.
Don't waste your money on the optimiser.

Flash 7 website optimisation

Thanks for that Antony. I thought that Flash 7 sites were very difficult if not impossible to optimise? You say good content but I thought that the search engine spiders couldn't recognise Flash site??

What I meant to say, Flash is more for the multimedia content.
To have your web site optimised for search engines, it is wiser to have more text. Simple text is the easiest to read by both human and machine. Hence, try to reduce the usage of Flash, and only use Flash to enhance your website, not putting entire content in it.

The text content inside Flash can be extracted out, but too much hassle for spiders.

Hope this helps.
