Making a new Flash.xpi for v6.0.79

Postby profman » Mon 10 Mar, 2003 6:36 pm

Flash.xpi is a zipped file with only two components to be installed. They are the files, "NPSWF32.dll" and "flashplayer.xpt."

Am I safe to assume that I may just update these two file and then re-zip to make the Flash.xpi file again?

Two other bothersome questions:

1. In another thread I have shown how the flash installer from Macromedia places the "flashplayer.xpt." file into the "components" subfolder of Netscape instead of the "plugins" subfolder where Flash.xpi intsalls it. Is this a problem?

2. If the size of a component that I decide to replace in my CCK distribution is different than the original file, do I ever need to worry about changing some parameters in the "CONFIG.INI" file?

In my experience, both those files are installed into plugin folder.

If you are lazy to create an updated flash.xpi for yourself, you can use mine at ftp://ftp.sillydog.org/pub/others/flash.xpi now updated to v6.0 r79 and it is the one being used in updated Streamline 7.02 and Stand-alone 7.02.

Are these .xpi files (a la Autoscroll), nothing more than plugins???

As far as I can tell, xpi files are zipped files with defined paths for placement of the files contained within the zipped archive. Each *.xpi file also has an "install.js" file which, among other things, appears to check for sufficient disk space. Evidently, Netscape is designed to handle these specialized ZIP files with the "xpi" suffix.

The Flash.xpi file contains only the two files that I mentioned earlier plus the "install.js" file. I have not looked at the autoscroll xpi file.
