Making NIM or Registration Optional?

Postby profman » Tue 07 Jan, 2003 4:27 pm

How tough is it to make NIM or registration an option at installation time (or later, if possible)? I am currently working on my custom Netscape 7.01 version which is pretty much stripped down, but I may want to give my local users some options if I can.

I already know how to eliminate NIM or registration from being installed.

Please do not cause Netscape registration to be circumvented in your CCK'd builds . . .

In order for Netscape to survive, it needs "numbers". Those "numbers"
are counted by the number of "registrations" entered when first installing
the application. In other words, how many users download and register the
product is the determining factor when AOL management audits usage.

Many users are "put off" by this registration process and look for
ways to circumvent this function which is understandable to a
degree. Please do NOT get around it, REGISTER. "Bite The Bullet" !!

Thanks

BTW: When installing 7.01 you will be requested to "register"
again. Annoying, yes, I know .. But PLEASE, do NS a huge
favor, it only takes a minute.

Please also refer to this previous topic on the subject . . .
For the sake of Netscape . . . register your browser!

It is not hard, but you need to know how to write setup configuration files.
NIM can be an option (during) installation easily, as in 7.01 Streamline Series.
And Registration/Activation is a little bit complicated, it is easier to either leave it as it is OR disable it.
