Media Player 9 now for OS X

Postby Antony » Mon 10 Nov, 2003 8:22 am

Microsoft now offers its latest version of Media Player (version 9) for Mac OS X :X:.
It has brushed metal interface, similar to Quicktime. According to Microsoft, New plug-in support added for Internet Explorer, Netscape and Safari enables playback of Windows Media files right from the browser.

system requirement:
* Mac OS :X: version 10.1.5 or later (latest release of version 10.2.x recommended)
* 128 megabytes (MB) or higher
* 10 MB free HD space
* Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.1 for Mac, America Online for Mac OS X, Netscape 7.1, MSN for Mac OS X version 2.0, or Apple Safari 1.0

Well, it's a bit unusual that Microsoft's MacTopia has no words about this. (at time of posting)

Hmm, I clicked "Agree" in the License page after reading twice. Did not find out anything relating to this Microsoft EULA forces you to gives away admin rights as reported by DJGM a while back.

Installed and tested with Safari, Camino 0.7+ (nightly) and Firebird 0.7.1 (for :X:). It is the first time I can use Media Player as plugin under those browsers. :)

I still refuse to upgrade the Media Player in my WinXP machine to version 9.

That EULA issue only refers to installing the Windows version of WMP. The Mac version is "safe" . . .

SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

Just installed the WMP for OS X. I just noticed the player does not support MP3 but does support WMA though. steams work very well.
