Memory Usage

Just curious about others' experiences with FF 6. After twenty minutes FF registers 273,000 K. After same time period and same number of tabs open (three) IE 9 registers 121,000 K. Something appears to be off here.

Safari uses quite a fair big of memory. I will get some numbers for you.

I know I have a lot of memory and I'm not trying to complain. But lately I've noticed a distinct slowing down of my browsing with FF in comparison to IE and that really surprised me.

I use Seamonkey 2.33, by default, and it showed 105 MB, after starting, settling down to 74 MB, 92 MB with mail open, or three tabs. Firefox 6.02, a notorious memory hog 126 MB. Chrome display , at least, seven chrome.exe items, which added up to over 150 MB.iexplore.exe had two items, which added up to 129 MB. Firefox 3.6.22, my favorite Firefox uses 88 MB, with three tabs. Does plugin-container.exe matter? Whose is it? With only Seamonkey open, it draws only 2 MB, much more when Firefox is open.
I had noticed, long ago, that the more tabs the worst, so all browsers display only two tabs on startup, with a maximum of three. I, never, leave any window open.
I noticed that some tabs take up more memory than others. Since I have an old computer, with 512 MB RAM, memory usage matters.

Thanks for the response, Fulvio. Since SM uses the same rendering engine as FF, why would it use less memory?

I am not sure. I am guessing that it is a matter of Tabs. My Seamonkey opens with two tabs, like all the others. One tab takes at the most, five seconds to load. BBC America takes longer. All three Firefox profiles load at least one very complex Tab. To be fair, I would have to open all browsers with the same Tabs, or no Tab.
I may get around to do it, one day.
