Messenger 4.8 mail sending password

Postby Dickerson » Sun 04 Jan, 2004 12:30 am

Up front, I am using: Netscape® Communicator 4.8; downloaded from the SillyDog Browser Archive.

Now, when I send a mail, I am required to enter my mail account password, but not when I am receiving mail. I am checked all the appropriate boxes, and unchecked those that I thought might be causing this. When I last tried to send a mail, I got the password box, again.

This has been going on for a while, but I have always ust lived with it. However, I did try Mozilla 1.5 for a while, and did not have to do this. (I am back to the Netscape/Firebird combonation now - just works better for me).

Any ideas what I need to do to be able to just send mail without providing my password everytime?

Thanks again, in advance . . .

Michael

Firstly, Please give us a meaningful subject, it will help people to find the right thread.

Sorry 'bout the header. I understand the "prompt" however.

I have the option to remember passwords checked. I have checked and rechecked that it is checked.

I did find a How to Guide via a Google search that advised if a user name is entered in the outgoing mail server user name box, then Netscape may prompt for a password. It also suggested removing the name. When I did, and tried to send a mail, I was prompted that the mail server was requesting a user name. Back to square one.

I seems I am going in circles here.

It works like a charm, as described in your other THread. I click on the Netscape link, while In MozFirebird, and I was not prompted. However, if you checked the box, and it does not work, there may be some other problem. I have not verified how well it works with new mail arriving, but I don't see why it should not work.
Now, I have five mail clients accessible from MozFirebird. I have no more space.

Outgoing mail only . . .

Just to clarify, I only get prompted for a password when I am sending mail. I never get prompted with inoming mail. Netscape remembers the password.

I am starting to think after a little more research that it is an issue with my ISP mail server, requiring a password to send a mail. Mozilla 1.5 does this, but I do not think Netscape 4.8 does (at least for outgoing stuff).
