That's how it is in the U.S.
The jury selection began yesterday (31 January). Cameras are not being allowed in the courtroom for the trial, so the E! cable channel in the U.S. plans to have daily reenactments using actors.

Usually, most people don't want to be jury for a number of reasons, usually lengthy (6+ months), stressed, and not well compensated.

Well I would love to be a juror. I like to watch court
trials and I find most people you speak to after a trial, haven't watched the DNA section of a trial, and other little things that just seem to get through. I don't think they pick the right jurors most of the time. Then when they are declared "Guilty" they will say they "were not guilty, or vice versa."
In circumstantial cases, it is very difficult to say someone is guilty, however it happens many times. IMHO, there is usally sufficient evidence for a Not Guilty Verdict yet they are often declared Guilty.
That is the the reason for so many appeals, along with other things of course, but you ask, " Why does it take so long for a case to be tried?" IMO, Because of the amount of appeals and lawyers knowing that some of their questioning will be over-ruled.
I think everyone should have a fair trial, don't get me wrong, but some lawyers, both Prosecutors along with Defence attorneys push it at times.

I took a poll in my government and 17/22 said he was guilty and 7/17 said that MJ bought off the previous people.

Accuser's mother 'has a history of making false claims'
Michael Jackson's lawyers will present evidence to a court that the mother of his teenage accuser has a history of making false accusations about sexual assaults. It will also claim that she has coached him to make false allegations.

The paralegal has apparently told Jackson's defence team that the woman, known in court papers as Jane Doe to protect the identity of her son, lied under oath and fabricated the charges against the JC Penney security guards. She has further alleged that the bruises suffered by the woman were not inflicted by the guards but by someone else.

Hitting back at Mr Sneddon's claims Jackson had masturbated with the boy and showed him pornographic magazines and websites, Mr Mesereau said two massive police searches of Neverland had failed to turn up any genetic evidence of abuse.
"The ... children's DNA was never found in Michael Jackson's bedroom after searching and testing," Mr Mesereau said. "The DNA isn't there, because the molestation claims are fiction."
Prosecutors claim fingerprints belonging to both Jackson and his accuser were allegedly found on a pornographic magazine seized from the star's bedroom and the star plied the youngster with liquor.
But Mr Mesereau said the boy and his brother were out of control, breaking into Jackson's wine cellar and helping themselves to his collection of raunchy magazines, tucked away in a suitcase in his room.
"Mr Jackson will freely admit he read girlie magazines from time to time," Mr Mesereau told jurors, adding Jackson sent aides to buy the magazines at a local store. But, he said, "he denies showing them to children".
Mr Mesereau also dismissed allegations Jackson conspired with five aides and business associates, who have not been charged, to kidnap the boy and his mother, brother and sister and keep them prisoner at Neverland.
He said during the period in which the accuser's mother claims she was held prisoner, she was chauffeured to a beauty salon at her own request and never tried to raise the alarm. "That is absurd," Mr Mesereau said.
Mr Mesereau said the mother, whom he portrayed as a rapacious financial predator with a history of trying to con celebrities, accused Jackson of molestation only when she realised she would not profit from the star.
Up until that point, she had described Jackson as a father to her children. "When she realised she was not going to make millions of dollars one way, she found another way, and here we are," he said.
As I always said, Michael Jackson is innocent, and the kids' parents are greedy.
Who is prosecutor Tom Sneddon? He was the one accusing Michael Jackson back in 1993, but failed. According to various reports, he has personal vendetta against Michael Jackson.
“Some supporters of Michael Jackson claim that he [Sneddon] is involved in a conspiracy against him [Jackson].â€
