Microsoft loses another Word XML patent appeal

Postby Antony » Fri 12 Mar, 2010 11:04 pm

First mentioned in [sdt=15927]Microsoft can't sell Word anymore in the US[/sdt], Microsoft has lost the appeal of August 2009 court judgment that found the company in infringement of XML patents owned by i4i.

According to BBC,
BBC wrote:there was evidence that Microsoft knew i4i technology was patented before it turned up in Office programs,

Microsoft still has another appeal it can make. If Microsoft does not like the result of the next appeal, Microsoft can escalate the case to the US Supreme Court, which would decide whether or not to hear the arguments, and the decision from US Supreme Court should be absolutely final (in most situations).
