Microsoft shipped Office 2008 for Mac yesterday (MWSF 2008). It has been almost four years since the last revision - Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac (released in May 2004). Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac is finally a Universal Binary, a significant milestone as all major Mac software can now run on latest Intel-based Macs.



Office 2008 was originally scheduled for release in second half of 2007, however it was delayed until January 2008 for fixing bugs.

Inspired by Apple iWork, Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac comes with a number of newly designed templates, and Mactopia advertises it as “work smarter not harder.â€

Microsoft released the first update to Office 2008 for Mac - Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.0.1 Update.

Microsoft says:

This update fixes critical issues in Office 2008, including issues that might cause Office 2008 applications to stop responding or quit unexpectedly.

The Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.0.1 Update is 114MB and can be downloaded from Mactopia.

Microsoft has released the first Service Pack (SP1) for Office 2008 for Mac - Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac Service Pack 1 (12.1.0).

Microsoft says:

This update contains several improvements to enhance security, stability, and performance, including fixes for vulnerabilities that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer's memory with malicious code. For detailed information about this update, please visit the Microsoft Web site.

The Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac Service Pack 1 (12.1.0) is 180MB and can be downloaded from Mactopia.
