Missing scroll bars (Netsc7: Address book, Composer)

Postby Gin13 » Mon 18 Nov, 2002 3:32 pm

Due to reduced eye strength I'm forced to use a resolution of 600*800 on the screen. This means, that to access every pixel of the "normal", bigger screen, I'm depending on the scroll bars. I've found that on the Address book dialog form "New Card" there are no scroll bars. This means, that there is no way to get the buttons "OK" or "Cancel" visible and clickable!
I consider this beeing a serious BUG

The same is true for the composer window, at least in some cases: No scroll bars!

This may be a problem of having to use 800x600. In such cases, when you cannot say ok., just go with your mouse to the blue band on the very top of the desired, click and hold, and you will be able to place whatever you need within range. There is no need for a scrollbar in New Card, once you have it within range. I have not encountered such problem since NS6.0, but you program should remember the new location

Missing scroll bars

Postby Gin13 » Tue 19 Nov, 2002 4:03 am

The method of "dragging" the form upwards is not usable, as the form is too high! Although I hide all toolbars and the taskbar the OK button is not visible.
This problem is only showing up with NS7, not in 4.7. from which I upgraded directly to 7.0.
Nore solutions?

As I said I have 800x600, and the monitor has a 15 in screen. The way it is for me, the card takes the space from the very top and down the bottom of the Netscape toolbar. It is pretty huge, I admit, but the toolbar, at the bottom is completely available. I will check if all my NS7.0 have the same size Card, but it will not help you. Confirm that we both have the same parameters.

I don't quite understand what you mean with "parameters" in this case ?
I'm running NS7 on Win98SE, screen 15" LCD (flat 9x!12" SVGA)

I still think this fact (The Missibg Scroll Bsrs) is a BUG.

Gin13,
When you use 800 by 600, have you also reduce the Font size's DPI?
Also, have you tried to use TAB for navigating though fields? Cycling all inputable fields and buttons. You can use this to hit "OK" buttons.

Missing scroll bars

You seem to have got something wrong ? I need not to touch the font size at all, everything is propotional. 16 dpi will look bigger on an 600 x 800 disolay than on say 900 x 1200

Using the TAB key is the only way to put the sursir on the right place. The poblem, however, is still there: IF the form doesm't scroll, and that depends on many things, you don't know if your cursur is on the OK or on the Cancel button!

Thank you all fir shown interest. but I still think that this is a BUG
Are the NS maintenance people reading these posts or how should I get this report to their attention?

I will post at the Champion's Forum. I am pretty sure that developers watch the board. I have several Netscape and Mozilla, and the New Card has the same length for each. And, by parameters I meant the display settings. The card lenthincreases with a high color value. But if you use screen area of 1024x768, the Ok and Cancel buttons are quite visible. This should not have to be done, if you have an eyesight problem.

I did two things. I posted a question, and, also, checked other Netscape-related browsers, and I found out that Beonex's New Card is a bit more restrained. Its bottom is about 1 cm above the Status bar. It still may not be enough for you.
But, I still do not understand why you feel that a scrollbar would help. You need a Card which takes less space from top to bottom, in the first place.

Hi Gin13,

This means, that there is no way to get the buttons "OK" or "Cancel" visible and clickable! I consider this beeing a serious BUG

I'm not certain I would call this a bug, but it is inconvenient when you are unable to access the "OK" and "Cancel" buttons.

There is a workaround, however. Once you have entered the information for the "New Address Card", simply press "Enter". That will accomplish the same thing as "OK".

For the Composer window, once you have used the original space, and continue to scroll (use) the extended space, the scroll bar is available.
