Is there an new Version of Modoki out there ?

Confirmed Netscape 8.04 causes an error during install process.
Namely, if you try to install from lowandsh's site or Netscape theme park with 8.04, below message might appear;

Netscape could not download the file at
(URL)
because: Not a valid install package

On my side, despite the error message, it can be downloaded and installed fine at least from lowandsh's site.
If you are trying to install from lowandsh's site, and no lack, have a try these.

A. Download the file to your desktop by clicking "Download" link on the lowandsh's site. Then drag and drop the file icon to your theme manager window (Tools -> Themes).

or

B. Try installing from Netscape Theme Park.

Hope this helps.
We (I and lowandsh) will investigate the reason of the error.

Bug with Icons in New Toolbars

Postby macallan1824 » Wed 09 Nov, 2005 7:52 pm

If I add a new Toolbar, Modern Modoki (1.17) seems to ignore the display settings for it (eg Small/Large Icons etc) and always uses 'Icons and Text - Small'.

Fusion and others work fine in this situation

Confirmed.
I'll pass along this to lowandsh.

No separator icon

Postby macallan1824 » Tue 15 Nov, 2005 9:07 am

A couple of comments:-

1. If you add a separator icon from the Navigation panel in the Customise Toolbar, while there is an icon in the customise panel, nothing is displayed in the toolbar.
Not sure if this is a design point or just missing (like it seems several of the Netscape authored themes)

Removing a separator once installed is worse, as there is no visual indication as to where it is located when customising the toolbar. You have to judge it from when the cursor becomes a hand, although as it's very narrow it easy to get the adjacent icons.

2. The 'Customise' icon (also on the Navigation panel) seems out of place on a toolbar in Modern Modoki:-
  • It has no 'background surround shape'
  • goes a yellow colour on mouse over
  • and when clicked has a white splash highlight.
Maybe this was left over from the original theme that was modified.......

3. If you drag the Home Page icon off the toolbar, then in Customise it has no picture, just a text name.

This phenomenon is observed also on Black Metal 1.01 and Straight C's 1.02.
So it's the problem on Netscape 8.0.4 side, I guess.

Modern Modoki 1.18 released

Postby Joji » Sat 03 Dec, 2005 12:23 am

Lowandsh has updated Modern Modoki to 1.18.

What's new.
  • Fixed display setting problem (icon size and text settings) on the newly added toolbar and multibar.
  • Improved SSL display. The Lock icon appear also on the location bar, and the backgrond color changes. (Ported from Firefox)
  • Changed "Customise" button to the same design as other buttons.
  • Fixed problem that separator becomes blank.
  • Fixed problem that the image is not displayed when "Home Page" button was returned to the "Customise" window.

Most of the bugs that macallan1824 reported should have been fixed on this version.

Thanks macallan1824 for reporting.

IMHO, the SSL display like Firefox is one of the good reasons to update.
Enjoy.

Just to confirm that all the issues I reported are fixed and working fine. The separator(s) really help to organise the icons and user toolbar fix makes MM very usuable, now I'm used to having 3 toolbars .....many thanks.

The auto update also worked fine, I clicked on the software update icon in the status bar and 1.18 installed without a hitch....

A couple of minor points were uncovered while using MM today:-
  • The cut, copy and paste icons react to a click even when inactive, ie the on-click status works when the icons are greyed out
  • The download, reload and stop icons seem to be the only ones without an on-click state. All the others react with a 'pressed' action when clicked.

Now we just need Netscape to fix all these bugs in their themes..... I guess that Lowandsh inherited all these bugs from the original Netscape theme he started with.............?

Some further feedback:-
  1. The Windows Min, Max and Close Controls stop getting displayed as you shrink a Browser Window horizontally if you have one of the Browser Message Bars displayed, eg the popups or plugins ones, and either the window is shrunk beyond the remaining 'free' space in the message bar, or the window is too narrow when the Message Bar is displayed.

See here for an example with the Aluminium Alloy theme, the same problem occurs with Modern Modoki 1.18.
  2. There is no icon for the Location (URL) field in the Customise Toolbar window

Re: Modern Modoki 1.18 feedback

Postby macallan1824 » Tue 03 Jan, 2006 5:03 pm

A bit more feedback:-
  1. In the Add Bookmarks dialog (Right Mouse Button, then 'Bookmark this Page'), the folder icon for the 'Create In' field looks a bit strange, not the usual Folder Icon for MM.
  2. The text for the active Tab in the Options Window is hard to read - white on light grey.
  3. There is no drop-down indicator on the System Mail Icon to indicate there is a menu to follow.
The Autofill button has similiar behaviour, but has a drop-down indicator.
Note: Clear Histories should also have a drop-down indicator, but apparently there is currently an NS8 bug preventing a theme including one.

Modern Modoki 1.19 released

Postby Joji » Mon 09 Jan, 2006 2:25 am

Lowandsh has updated Modern Modoki to 1.19.

What's new.
  • Fixed on-click behavior of Cut, Copy, and Paste buttons; reaction even when
    disabled.
  • Fixed on-click behavior of Downloads and Stop-Reload buttons; icon color
    should change on click.
  • Fixed Location bar icon problem in the Customize Toolbar window.
  • Fixed Windows Min, Max and Close Controls problem on window resize when the
    message bar is displayed.
  • Fixed the Folder icon in the Add Bookmarks dialog.
  • Changed the text color of the active Tab in the Options Window.
  • Added the drop-down indicator on the System Mail Icon.

Most of the problems that macallan1824 reported after 1.18 should have been fixed on this version.

As usual, thanks macallan1824 for reporting.
Please let us know if we are missing something.

From a quick test, all these issues are fixed, and a nice choice of icon for 'location' in the customise window....good work, thanks..... .
Joji wrote:Please let us know if we are missing something.

Only one minor point, the text for the active tab in Options still seems hard to read, (white on light greeny-grey). It may just be the high contrast on my laptop TFT screen, I'll have to try it on another monitor.

Some additional feedback:-
  1. There is no on-hover behaviour for the Windows Min, Max/Restore and Close icons, although this may be a design point.....? (although you can always wait for the hover help to appear)
  2. There seems to be no icon in the JavaScript Console for Messages, there are icons for Errors and Warnings.
The auto update worked just fine, again, it's an excellent way to keep up to date when it works as smoothly as this.....

Modern Modoki 2.00 for Nestcape 8.1 was released

Postby Joji » Thu 26 Jan, 2006 7:58 pm

Lowandsh has released Modern Modoki 2.00 for Nestcape 8.1.
Cause it's a major update, I created a new thread to discuss MM 2.x.

You can still get MM 1.x for Netscape 8.0.x from Modern Modoki for 8.0 page.
Please feel free to post comments around MM 1.x on this thread, but note that the prioriy of bug fix on 1.x line is now lower than 2.x line.
