"Mozilla 1.0.2 contains stability and security improvements. 1.0.2 also has fixes for standards support, UI correctness and polish, performance, and site compatibility. This is not a feature release. For new features, Mozilla 1.0 users are encouraged to upgrade to Mozilla 1.2."

O.K. you two, help a lady to understand the trees, the branches, and what difference it makes in the forest...

I cannot get it straight on the 1.0 and the 1.2.1, etc. I'm using 1.3a, as you can see, but I'm not certain which is more stable. I don't do the nightly versions. So could you please 'splain to me? :-?g

Ramona: The 1.3 Alpha is an early release version 1.3 of Mozilla, so it is bound to be buggy.

Your best bet, for a stable Mozilla version is Mozilla 1.2.1 - it is the most recent stable version.

Mozilla 1.0.2 is just Mozilla 1.0 with all the security fixes from the newer Mozilla builds.

So you could sort of sum it up like this:

Alpha: Buggy, prone to crashing.
Beta: Much more stable, may still crash though.
Final Release: Perfectly stable and should not crash at all.

Mandrake,

Thanks very much for the explanation. Pretty much what I thought, but sometimes it gets confusing. Yes, the 1.3a version is a little buggy. I shall download 1.2.1 post haste...

1.2.1 also appears to have nasty bugs involving XUL.mfl :-)

I've not experienced any problems with Mozilla 1.2.1, so it may depend on OS etc, I'm not entirely sure.

About stability and usability of Mozilla 1.0.2 compared to 1.2.1 and 1.3b/a/nightly.
Mozilla 1.0.2 is the most stable version of them all. But this doesn’t necessarily make it the best one. Where the 1.2 and 1.3 versions continue to get more features in, get faster and sometimes smaller, the 1.0.x (and 1.2.1 in that sense) are more stable because they are bug fixing versions. That’s the only reason they are released and so those are the most stable ones.

But I prefer the latest nightly…
